A Literate Life - Julie Ballew is a literacy coach in our district that I am blessed to work with and call my friend. Besides being an amazing person, she's a wealth of literacy knowledge :-)

I added notes from Teachers College and a new guided reading planning sheet :-)

Some of the PTA moms and I reorganized the literacy library last year. By assigning each book set, book box, and check out card a specific location, it makes reshelving a snap!

After teachers are finished with their guided reading sets, they return them in their designated basket. At a glance, parent volunteers can easily see if books need to be reshelved.

After relocating my files from a remote server and onto a new server at my house, I'm back online! It was a difficult task and could not have been completed without the genius mind of my stepbrother, Brad. Thanks, Brad, you rock!

It was such a blessing to attend Teachers College in New York for the Advanced Writing Section this summer. Lots to share! New stuff is on the way!

Here is a site that has great free photographs for projects. Jupiter Images I use these photos for the background of my morning powerpoint for the kids. It plays a slideshow of their morning duties.

The new F&P benchmark assessment has been out a few months and is broken into 2 kits:
Kit #1: Grades K-2 with Levels A-N
Kit #2: Grades 3-8 with Levels L-Z
Each kit is $250.00.
Look at the running record calculator/stopwatch it comes with! Even if you don't purchase a kit, the nifty gadget can be bought separately at 19.95!

This past school year, I wrote to 180 book companies telling them about our campus. After stating the demographics and extremely high number of our students living in low socioeconomic environments, I asked if we could receive free publication samples, over-runs, discontinuations or warehouse samples from their company. This table shows the overwhelming responses we received. Who would have thought? Ask your Literacy Coach to do the same for your campus.

A powerful visual I saw online:
